LSNYC Responds to the Eric Garner Grand Jury Decision

December 4, 2014, New York, NY—From Trayvon Martin, to Michael Brown, to the refusal of the grand jury to indict the officer whose chokehold led to the death of Eric Garner, we see an unbroken chain of ways in which the criminal legal system devalues the lives of Black men.

We have an opportunity in New York City, working with a Mayor and City Council committed to overhauling our justice system, to support the serious changes needed to save lives and keep communities safe. Our work fighting for racial, social and economic justice is all the more critical in the face of a criminal legal system that crushes opportunity, and lives, every day.
