Education Roundtable: New York’s Role in Responding to Federal Changes in Education Policy
Following the Trump administration’s systematic dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education (DOE), states across the country, including New York, are left without vital educational resources, supports, or mechanisms to protect vulnerable students, including low-income students and students with disabilities.
In response, parents, advocates and lawmakers will convene to discuss what New York State can do to make sure ALL students have access to educational resources and protections, including the roughly 400,000 students with disabilities in New York who will be disproportionately impacted by these cuts. Attendees will share concerns, explore strategies to fill federal gaps, and suggest ways New York can safeguard the rights of students with disabilities through improving data collection and transparency, building student and parent power, and increasing oversight of disciplinary practices.
