2026 Bronx Legal Services Annual Gala

Our Honorees

Carl E. Heastie

Carl E. Heastie is the 100th Speaker of the New York State Assembly and the first African-American to take this role. Heastie served as a budget analyst in the NYC Comptroller’s office before being elected to the Assembly in 2000, becoming Speaker in 2015. Over the course of his career, he has made a difference in the lives of New Yorkers in many ways, including advocating for workers’ rights and an increase to the minimum wage; supporting early childhood education and holistic services for students; reforming the criminal justice system; supporting public health initiatives; investing in affordable housing; and more.

McDermott Will & Schulte

McDermott Will & Schulte has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting access to justice and strengthening communities across New York. Through its dedication to public service, philanthropy, and partnership with nonprofit organizations, the firm helps advance opportunities for individuals and families facing significant legal and economic challenges.

Bronx River Alliance

The Bronx River Alliance works to protect, improve, and restore the Bronx River corridor while ensuring that surrounding communities can enjoy and benefit from this vital natural resource. Through environmental stewardship, education, recreation, and community engagement, the Alliance helps create a healthier and more vibrant Bronx for all residents.
