Denise Kassim
Denise Kassim is the Interim Project Director of Manhattan Legal Services, where she leads strategic initiatives that strengthen advocacy, collaboration, and impact across New York City’s largest legal services network. Over her decade-long tenure with Legal Services NYC, she has built a reputation for creative problem-solving, cross-unit collaboration, and a client-centered approach that connects legal services with community empowerment.
Before becoming Interim Project Director, Denise served as Manhattan Legal Services Deputy Director as well as the Unit Director of the Government Benefits Unit, where she oversaw a team handling critical impact litigation involving SNAP, Medicaid, welfare, and housing subsidies. She launched innovative initiatives like the Housing Court Benefits Clinic and partnerships with organizations like the West Side Campaign Against Hunger and African Services Committee. She is also a 2023 Leadership Fellow, a former Council of Urban Professionals Fellow, a former board member of the Association of Black Women Attorneys, and a member of several boards advancing racial and economic justice.
Denise earned her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law and her B.A. in African American Studies from Columbia University, cum laude. She is a proud advocate for racial equity, mentorship, and holistic client service. She was raised in San Diego, California.
