E-mail Print PDF

The Gender Recognition Act was signed into law on June 24, 2021. The law is a historic step forward for many transgender and non-binary New Yorkers. It streamlines the name change process, allows individuals to choose gender non-binary options on many New York State documents, and gives New York State courts jurisdiction to issue orders changing an individual’s gender marker on their various identity documents.

This page contains informational material about the gender recognition act and also in the future will contain sample petitions and orders for the new provisions allowing courts to issue gender marker change orders.
