Adjustment of Status for U-Visa Holders

This initiative helps low-income immigrant survivors of domestic violence obtain green cards. Clients who obtain green cards have the freedom to live and work in the US permanently, freedom of movement in and out of the country, and the ability to seek US citizenship, among other things. Our clients have already successfully obtained legal status through U-Visas - a form of immigration relief available to crime victims who have suffered substantial mental or physical abuse and who are willing to assist with the investigation of prosecution of the crime. Note that many of these clients speak Spanish and may require an interpreter. These cases are straightforward and are generally done in a clinic setting, spread out over two days.

Scope of work for pro bono volunteers includes:

a. Meet with client, confirm eligibility issues, draft 1-2 age affidavit with the client, and help client to complete necessary immigration forms.

b. Assist client in locating relevant documents.

c. Finalize and submit relevant forms and documents.
