NEW YORK, NY (December 21, 2023) – Legal Services NYC provides free civil legal help to more than 100,000 low-income New Yorkers each year. We proudly serve New Yorkers of all backgrounds, countries, and faiths, and continue to expand and adapt our services to meet the growing and varying needs of diverse communities in New York City.
The statement recently released by the Legal Services Staff Association (LSSA), UAW Local 2320, regarding Israel and Palestine was made independently from Legal Services NYC; we did not draft or approve it. The LSSA regularly engages in political activities and speech that Legal Services NYC is prohibited by law from undertaking.
Our hearts go out to all those who have experienced violence and loss and we categorically condemn antisemitic, Islamophobic, and anti-Israel and anti-Palestinian hate, racism, and discrimination. We take the safety and concerns of our staff and clients seriously and strive to maintain a safe, diverse, and supportive work environment for all so that we can continue serving New Yorkers in need.
