NEW YORK, NY (August 22, 2023) – Legal Services NYC (LSNYC), the nation’s largest provider of free civil legal help to low-income New Yorkers, is proud to announce that Greg Klemm will join the organization in September 2023 as Chief Financial Officer. Klemm will oversee LSNYC’s financial responsibilities and strategies, including compliance for government (federal, state, and city) contracts and private grants, yearly budget planning and implementation, overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, and managing the overall financial health of the organization. LSNYC has a budget of more than $110 million from over 200 federal, state, city, foundation, and donor sources.

Klemm joins Legal Services NYC with nearly 20 years of financial leadership and experience. Most recently, Klemm served as Chief Financial and Operating Officer at the Vera Institute of Justice where he led the Institute’s business and operations functions, including finance, people resources, technology, and workplace services. Notably, he developed a financial infrastructure to support the Vera Institute’s budget growth from $67M in 2016 to over $240M in the most recent audited year. He also moved the Vera Institute to a more cost-effective banking partner, increased its line of credit, and helped the organization transition to a mission-aligned investment strategy. Klemm holds a BBA in accounting and an MBA from Cleveland State University.

“We are thrilled to have Greg join Legal Services NYC,” said Raun Rasmussen, executive director of Legal Services NYC. “With nearly 20 years of exceptional non-profit leadership experience, we are confident that Greg will be able to help us continue to build the strong financial strategies and structures we need to serve low-income New Yorkers and communities for years to come.”

“I am excited to join Legal Services NYC and provide the financial stewardship necessary to help scale the organization and make sure they have the resources they need to continue providing top-notch legal help to communities in need,” said Greg Klemm. “Legal Services NYC is the largest provider of free civil legal services in the country and well-regarded for the incredible care and support they provide to their clients. I look forward to joining their talented staff and being a part of the team that helps so many.”
