Children attending a Bronx elementary school are not receiving the special services
to which they are entitled, including Special Education, English as a Second Language, and Academic Intervention Services, according to parents, teachers, and community activists. A coalition that includes Legal Services NYC-Bronx, a program of Legal Services NYC, is demanding action.

Towns last week in announcing the introduction of House Resolution 1394, which honors Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A (a program of Legal Services NYC) along with three other community organizations that "provide life-saving services to those who need it — the vulnerable and hurting victims of domestic violence.”

Governor David A. Paterson today signed into law a critical subprime
lending reform bill which directly addresses the mortgage crisis in New
York State. The Governor signed the bill in Queens, one of the areas in
New York that has been hit hardest by the foreclosure crisis. The new
law will immediately help protect people from losing their homes and
mandates reforms to help avoid a similar crisis in the future. The bill
also takes into consideration the importance of striking the right
balance between consumer protection and the availability of affordable
credit.
