A large number of LSNYC's clients are the elderly poor who primarily subsist on extremely low, fixed incomes from Social Security Retirement and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Their most basic legal needs involve representation to preserve and protect access to affordable housing and related benefits which enable them to remain in their homes with dignity. We provide eviction prevention services for those who reside in rent regulated and subsidized housing, promote access to appropriate levels of Medicaid funded long-term home care, and provide advocacy to help our clients get and keep other public benefits that increase or preserve income.
