Citywide Legal Leadership

Legal Services NYC’s Legal Support Unit (LSU) provides organization-wide litigation and advocacy leadership, coordination, supervision, training and support. LSU attorneys work closely with advocacy staff in all of our borough offices, as well as community partners, pro bono attorneys, public interest colleagues and NYC influence leaders. In addition, LSU attorneys are frequently called upon to inform policy makers and the press about the needs and legal rights of low-income New Yorkers.

The Legal Support Unit is also dedicated to building capacity throughout NYC’s non-profit legal community. We operate the Learning Center, which is the nation’s largest CLE training program for poverty lawyers. In addition, the LSU convenes a range of citywide Legal Task Forces in substantive areas including Education, Foreclosure, Housing, Government Benefits, Disability, Bankruptcy and Veterans.
